The volunteer staff of Navalny was sentenced for inciting religious hatred

Cheboksary. September 18. INTERFAX – the Novocheboksarsk city court of the Chuvash Republic on Monday convicted the volunteer of the regional headquarters of opposition leader Alexei Navalny, accused under two articles of the criminal code.

Coordinator, “Open Russia” in the Chuvash Republic Dmitry Semenov has informed “Interfax” that the defendant Alexey Mironov was charged under articles 280 (public calls for extremist activities) and 282 (incitement of hatred or enmity, and humiliation of human dignity) of the criminal code.

He was charged with a repost of two pictures in 2016 in the social network “Vkontakte”, one of which contained the phrase calls for the violent overthrow of the government, and the second excited hatred or hostility on religious grounds.

“For a repost of these pictures A. Mironov already been brought to administrative responsibility, and deleted them, but then were prosecuted,” said Dmitry Semyonov.

Case in Novocheboksarsk city court heard in closed session. The court sentenced A. Mironov to two years three months in prison.

“This decision will be appealed to the Supreme court of the Chuvash Republic for 10 days. Now Alex is at home. In case the sentence comes into force it will have to get to the place of punishment”, – said the Agency interlocutor.
