Motorsport-wrap: Hamilton wins in Singapore, Vettel crashes

Lewis Hamilton moved to the 28-point lead in the formula 1 world championship after a commanding victory in the Singapore Grand Prix as title rival Sebastian Vettel crashed in the first curve.

The German Ferrari driver had qualified on pole position, but was involved in a fall, the fall with his team-mate Kimi Raikkonen and Red Bull Max verse on the first curve in the wet. All three retired because of damage from the accident. The crash also McLaren’s Fernando accounted for Alonso.

The clash is a big boost for the driver of the Mercedes, Hamilton was, had only managed fifth place in the qualification. He made a good start and move gave way to the drama in the lead, and from there was able to be comfortable Red Bull’s Daniel Ricciardo to fend off.

“I felt like I had a great start, but I think Kimi had happened to an incredible Start, and then I saw this excitement,” he said. “We had no idea what is going to happen today, but we just tried to stay focused. It was very much luck with the Ferraris at the start.”

Hamilton’s Mercedes team-mate Valtteri Bottas was third ahead of Carlos Sainz Jr (Toro Rosso) and Sergio Pérez (Force India). Renault Jolyon Palmer has lost his ride with the team for the next season, took a career-best five.

IndyCar Series: Sonoma Raceway

American driver Josef Newgarden drove the IndyCar Series championship with a second place finish in the season finale in Sonoma, California.

The 26-year-old in the weekend with a narrow points lead, led for much of the race ahead of his Penske team-mate Simon Pagenaud used an Alternative strategy to claim the lead in the last round of pit stops. But second place was enough for Newgarden to claim the title with 13 points from 2016 champion Pagenaud.

World Rallycross Championship: Riga, Latvia

The Swedish racer Johan Kristoffersson winner of the World Rallycross Championship-left the title with two events to run, his fifth victory in a row and sixth of the season – in Riga, Latvia.

The PSRX Volkswagen-Polo-GTI-driver dominated the final, finishing 2.3 seconds of the outgoing delete the end of champion Mattias Ekström (Audi A1).

NASCAR Sprint Cup: Chicagoland, Illinois
