Kia has brought its new Cee’d-preview sedan at the iaa in Frankfurt.
The Procee’d a concept takes the form of a shooting brake-style estate, even if Kia describes it as an “extended hatch”, with a touch of style to the cooking Cee’d. The brand has also alluded to the fact that the concept of a preview of a potential bodystyle for the C-segment car, which is currently on sale in three and five-door hatch and conventional summer-only formats.
The Cee’d range will start with the five-door and estate variants, as the best seller of the range. These are expected next year, although it is unlikely that the three-door Procee’d will be offered.
Should the three-door Procee d to be interrupted, it would make sense that the shooting brake variant would have taken his name. For the new Picanto, Kia has removed the option of three doors, which not only offers a five-door car.
The shooting brake would be another car in a new territory for Kia, following the introduction of the Stinger sports sedan that aims to compete with the Audi A4 and BMW 3 Series.
The car is rakish cluster of light, sharp folds towards the front and, in general, aesthetic, aggressive, with hints of design seen on the Picanto city car and the Sting.
The current generation of the Cee’d has been around since 2012, then, is almost at the end of its life cycle, usually six years, for the brand Korean. A facelift in 2015 up to date the car at the center of this cycle.
The engines are likely to be a mix of new, or revised existing units, while Kia’s 1.0-liter turbo three-cylinder is expected to move up to the Cee’d from the Picanto and Rio.
Designed at Kia’s Frankfurt studio, not far from the city’s motor show, the concept will be revealed in full on September 12.
