“Jehovah’s witnesses” is included in the list of prohibited in Russia organizations

Moscow. August 17. INTERFAX – the Ministry of justice of Russia has made “Jehovah’s Witnesses” in the list of prohibited in Russia organizations.

“The Ministry of justice to the list of public associations and religious organizations, other non-profit organizations, in respect of which the court accepted entered into legal force decision on liquidation or ban the activities on the grounds stipulated by the Federal law “On countering extremist activities,” religious organization “Administrative center of Jehovah’s Witnesses in Russia” and 395 within its structure of local religious organizations”, – said in a statement posted on the Ministry’s website on Thursday.

The text notes that the organizations included in the list based on the decision of the Supreme Court of the Russian Federation of 20 April 2017, the appeals determination, the Appeals Collegium of the Supreme Court of the Russian Federation of 17 July, in accordance with the Code of administrative procedure of the Russian Federation and the Federal law “On countering extremist activities”.

Russia’s Supreme court on 20 April at the suit of the justice Ministry acknowledged “Jehovah’s Witnesses” extremist organization and banned the activities of the organization throughout the country.

The organization has filed a complaint appeal to the Supreme court of the Russian Federation and the European court of human rights. July 17, the armed forces upheld the decision on recognition of the Russian “Jehovah’s Witnesses” extremist organization, banning their operation and liquidation in Russia, leaving the appellate complaint without satisfaction.
