The number of Russian Muslims who make the Hajj this year increased by 3 thousand to 23.5 thousand people

Moscow. August 11. INTERFAX – Saudi Arabia at the request of Russia increased the quota for Russian Muslims who will perform Hajj this year, said first Deputy Chairman of the Spiritual administration of Muslims of Russia Rushan Abbyasov.

“This year, the total quota for Russian Muslims will be 23 500 seats,” said R. Abbyasov at a press conference on Friday.

It is reported that the first group of pilgrims will travel to Mecca and Medina this weekend.

According to R. Abbasova originally, the quota had to be 20 to 500 seats, but the number of those wishing to visit the Holy places exceeded the quota. In this regard, the Commissioner for Hajj Ilyas Umakhanov addressed to the Minister for Hajj Affairs of Saudi Arabia with a request to allocate an additional 3 thousand people.
