Israeli police significantly stepped up security measures in the area of the Temple mount

Jerusalem. July 21. INTERFAX – the Israeli police on Friday has significantly strengthened security measures in the area of the Temple mount in the Old city of Jerusalem.

“Units of police and border police have been mobilized in all the neighboring districts, they will respond to any incidents and riots throughout the Friday,” the statement said Jerusalem police.

The document mentions the intelligence that extremists are planning to commit violent acts aimed at undermining public order in the period of Friday prayers.

“Israel is committed to maintaining the status quo on the Temple mount and security of believers and visitors,” – said earlier the Cabinet of Ministers of Israel.

In particular, the Israeli government gave the police the right to take any decisions necessary for free access to the temple mount. The government, however, agreed with the decision to establish police in the area the metal detector and limit entry to the temple mount to men under 50 years.

The temple mount was temporarily closed because of security reasons. Friday prayers in the complex have been cancelled.
