BEIJING, 5 Dec – RIA Novosti, Zhanna Manukyan. The hospital, which is the Nobel peace prize winner, Chinese human rights activist Liu Xiaobo, who suffers from liver cancer, had agreed to invite experts from USA and Germany to assist in his treatment, the report said the Department of justice of Shenyang.
Liu Xiaobo was exempted from punishment after he was diagnosed with cancer of the liver last stage.
“At the request of the family of Liu Xiaobo, and in accordance with the recommendation of experts, the First hospital, China medical University (Shenyang) decided to invite experts on the treatment of liver cancer from the USA, Germany and other countries to join the group of eminent Chinese experts for consultation on condition Liu Xiaobo,” — said in published on the Department’s website reported.
The Nobel peace prize was awarded to Liu Xiaobo in 2010 for “long nonviolent struggle for fundamental human rights in China”.
In June 2009, Xinhua news Agency reported that Liu Xiaobo was arrested on charges of “organizing in the last years of campaign actions aimed at undermining of state power and overthrow the socialist system”. According to some reports, he was arrested on 8 December 2008.
It was also reported that Liu Xiaobo is one of the authors of the so-called “Charter 08” — open letter to the Chinese authorities, demanding respect for human rights and political reforms. The Charter was signed by over 300 public figures and fighters for human rights in the country.
The actions of the Chinese authorities against Liu Xiaobo has repeatedly been the subject of controversy between China, USA and other Western countries demanding the release of human rights activist. All such statements, the Chinese foreign Ministry responded that the actions of competent authorities in relation to human rights are in line with Chinese laws.
