KYIV, June 30 — RIA Novosti. Ukraine can join NATO only if society’s willingness to this and nation-building with democratic values, said the Minister of defence of Ukraine Stepan Poltorak on Friday in Brussels.
Earlier Friday, the mission of Ukraine to NATO said that Poltorak holds meeting with NATO Secretary General in Brussels.
“If to speak about prospects of joining the Alliance, then NATO will not join the armed forces and not the defense Ministry’s Membership is a matter for the state, because the organization enters the state and is the prerequisite for joining the Alliance is not only the readiness of the armed forces to meet NATO standards, but also the willingness of society to join the Alliance”, — quotes the words of Poltorak’s appointment as Ukrainian news Agency UNIAN.
He also noted that Ukraine should build a democratic, European state, with defined values, where people will be the main criterion. In addition, the Minister stressed that NATO fully supports the reform of the armed forces of Ukraine (AFU) and reforms in the country as a whole.
“Together we have created all planning documents. The latter document, which was the development of the APU until 2020, which clearly can be traced all the way APU. In addition, at the stage of completion of the processing of the law of Ukraine on security sector and defence, where in the legislative plan will be assigned to all documents and decisions that were taken to reform the APU, the strategic defence Bulletin — all beacons on the reform of the APU will be defined in the act.
