Cardinal Pell denied allegations of sexual offences

Rome. June 29. INTERFAX – head of the Department of Finance of the Vatican, cardinal George Pell will appear before the Australian court in Melbourne on July 18 on charges of committing crimes of a sexual nature, reports on Thursday, the associated press.

“The trial will give me a chance to clear my name, and then return to work in Rome. I am grateful to the Holy father for what he gave me leave to come back to Australia for the trial,” said cardinal.

He categorically rejects all allegations.

“I’m innocent regarding these accusations, they are false… I’m disgusted by the very suggestion of sexual harassment” – quoted by John.Pella of Western media.

Police in the Australian state of Victoria said that after investigation, the 76-year-old cardinal has been charged with sexual offences alleged to have been committed decades ago.

Police did not specify the age of the alleged victims of abuse by the cardinal.
