Moscow. June 14. INTERFAX – Patriarch of Moscow and all Russia Kirill has called on the recognition of theology as a science, a new stage in the history of Russian education.
“State recognition of theology as a scientific specialty, the creation of dissertation councils and of the expert Council of VAK marks the beginning of a new phase in the history of the Russian education and science”, – is spoken in the Patriarchal greeting to participants of all-Russia scientific conference “Theology in the educational space.”
According to Patriarch Kirill, it suggests that society is gradually released “from the burden of misconceptions and ideological cliches of the past, according to which out of science was the knowledge, do not fit into the framework of materialist philosophy and natural science of the nineteenth century.”
As noted by the Patriarch, today, among scholars there is a growing awareness that theology, “which primarily is a systematic expression of religious faith, is a system of disciplines that meet the criteria of science”.
“It is artificial to separate this powerful layer of the Humanities from science and education – means to steal from our culture, to deprive it of historical memory, ideological and value bases,” – said in greeting.
As reported, on June 14, entered into force order of the Ministry of education, according to which Russia will have candidates and doctors of theology. To special degrees for theologians was not provided. Researchers who have defended within the framework of this specialty, appropriate to the degree of candidates and doctors of philosophical, historical, philological, pedagogical, sociology or cultural studies.
In October 2015, the Presidium of the Higher attestation Commission under the Ministry of education has approved the passport of scientific specialty “theology”. After that made possible the formation of the first specialized scientific Council on theology. It was created at MSU, Ranepa Institute of post-graduate and doctoral studies at St. Tikhon’s Orthodox University. In addition, were created by the expert Council of VAK in theology. It includes more than 50 secular scientists.
