The number of applications for asylum in Mexico rose after the election trump

MOSCOW, 19 Jul — RIA Novosti. The number of people applying for asylum in Mexico, increased by more than 150% since the election, Donald trump President of the United States, reports Reuters, citing data from the Mexican Agency for refugees, COMAR.

According to the Agency, currently an increasing number of migrants from Central America prefer to stay in Mexico than to get in the USA. According to COMAR, from November 2016 to March 2017, the Agency received more than 5.4 thousand requests for asylum. Over the same period last year, there were obtained 2.1 thousand applications.

According to the Director of COMAR Cynthia Perez, is currently not entirely clear whether the trump coming to power in the United States to increase those wishing to stay in Mexico.

Previously, the Agency associated Press with reference to written testimony to Congress by Secretary of homeland security John Kelly reported that the number of arrests of illegal immigrants on the U.S. border with Mexico continues to decline rapidly. The decline in the number of arrests could mean that immigrants are afraid to cross the border illegally.
