Putin met with head of the Russian Orthodox old belief Church (augmented fresia)

Moscow. March 17. INTERFAX – Russian President Vladimir Putin on Thursday met with old believers Metropolitan of Moscow and all Russia Cornelius, the press Secretary of the Russian President, Dmitry Peskov.

“Traditionally at these meetings, the President discusses with the heads of denominations the questions related to the life of faith, its activity and prospects of its development,” he told reporters.

In his welcoming speech Metropolitan thanked President for attention to the needs of the Church and help in holding in 2016 in Moscow an international conference where I first met the representatives of the old believers around the world, reports the website of the rpsts.

“I think that our meeting today is indeed historic: the head of state for the first time in 350 years to officially accept the Primate of the Orthodox old believers’ Church,” said Metropolitan Cornelius.

He complained that in Russia know little about the old believers. Meanwhile, according to him, the believers in all times been the defenders of the good of the Fatherland, was an example of Christian love and peace.

“The story of our homeland their spiritual roots closely connected with the old belief. Our pious ancestors, in spite of cruel persecutions, have always been patriots of Russia”, – said the Metropolitan to the head of state.

At the meeting they discussed the upcoming celebration of the 400th anniversary from the birthday of the Holy Martyr Archpriest Avvakum and the reconstruction of architectural monuments in the main centers of celebration on Rogozhskoe and Preobrazhenskoe cemeteries of Moscow. Also in the framework of the national policy was affected by the problem of interaction with compatriots abroad.
