Earlier this season Koeman has put Barkley on the bench and repeatedly subjected to that criticism, calling into question the ability of the 23-year-old midfielder to realize their potential.
However, Barkley correctly responded to the criticism and shows impressive performance in recent months, and now the Manager intends to keep Ross at the club.
“Yes, talks are scheduled. Although I do not think that they have already started,” said Koeman.
“He’s one of those players, whose contract expires in a year, and we will do our best to convince Ross to sign a new contract”.
“It adds. Now he is more important player for the team than before and that’s what I want from him.”
Barkley current contract with Everton expires in June 2018.
In this season, the midfielder has played for Everton in 25 matches in the Premier League where he scored 4 goals and gave 6 assists.
