Mattis assured allies in “an unbreakable commitment” to NATO

The tone of statements of the new head of the Pentagon is different from some of the skeptical comments of the President of trump in respect of the Alliance

The Minister of defence of the USA James Mattis in the first full day in office, held a telephone conversation with NATO allies, which assured them of the United States ‘ commitment to the Alliance.

His words differed to a skeptical attitude to NATO, which from time to time the voice of the President Donald trump.

Mattis called NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg, British defense Secretary Michael Fallon and Minister of defense of Canada Harjito to Sajjan, said Pentagon spokesman Navy captain Jeff Davis.

In an interview with Fallon Mattis “stressed the unbreakable commitment of the United States of NATO”, and close relationship of the Pentagon with the British armed forces.

Last week, trump called NATO the “outdated” structure that is “very unfair to the United States.”
