In the North of Yakutia in Epiphany consecrated the ocean

Moscow. 19 Jan. INTERFAX – the Arctic ocean along with the Atlantic and Pacific were also consecrated in this Epiphany.

It happened in the village of Tiksi, the most Northern settlement of Yakutia, on the shore of the Laptev sea, which is part of the Arctic ocean.

“Despite the strong wind, many people came to worship and even plunged into a hole in the ice”, – told the correspondent of “Interfax-Religion” on Thursday, the priest Dionysius Bondarenko carrying the service to the Holy Trinity-St. Nicholas Church in Tiksi.

Thus, on the night of the feast the Russian Orthodox clergy has consecrated the three oceans of the earth, following an ancient tradition to bless water in the churches and open water in the feast of the Baptism of the Lord.

As previously reported, the community of the Russian parish in Reykjavik reached the shore of the Atlantic ocean, where had been the great blessing of the waters. The Pacific ocean was consecrated on the shores of the Gulf of Siam in Thailand, in the Bay of Novik in Primorye (sea of Japan) and in the Bay of Gertner Magadan region (sea of Okhotsk). In addition, in the Crimea sanctified the Black sea, and in Makhachkala – Caspian.
