This year’s Korean flagship promise to please large screens in a relatively compact package, but the producers want to go beyond the same plane and are working diligently to gadgets with flexible displays. LG is no exception, and in the new patent, the company described a rather curious variant of a folding design.
Display secret

The camera appears when folded

In the unfolded state LG device resembles a hybrid of Microsoft. Flexible panel covers almost the entire surface, but when folded screen on one of the halves slightly slides back, opening up access to the camera, the power button and the fingerprint scanner. Such a structure we see for the first time. The company’s engineers have not stinted on the images of several scenarios for the use of flexible display. So, in smartphone mode, the bent portion can display notifications on the screen, volume keys or control buttons player.

One part of the body of the smartphone is noticeably thinner

A detailed description of the parts of the hinge mechanism in the patent suggests that it is not just about the theoretical possibility of creating bendable smartphone. The document was quickly removed from free access after the development drew the attention of major publications.
When to wait?

If you believe the rumors, LG and Samsung will introduce bendable smartphones in the second half of 2017. In some patents Samsung devices are formed inside the screen, but now the manufacturer is preparing a device with AMOLED panel on the outside of the case.
