This is the Lotus Exige Race 380, a featherweight version of the roadgoing Exige Sport 380 which is designed for the track and the competition.
The Race 380 has the same supercharged 3.5 litre V6 engine as the road car, but the stripped-back model is 68kg lighter, weighing in at 998kg dry. This increases its power-to-weight by 24bhp on the Sport 380 is, up to a total of 376bhp per tonne.
The Sport of the manual transmission is also inverted to a Xtrac six-speed sequential transmission. Combined with the loss of weight, this helps with the trim of the car a 0-60mph time of 3.2 s – 0.3 sec quicker than the road car.
In addition, the Race 380 becomes increasingly aggressive to the body, which includes a large front splitter, a larger rear wing and a more efficient rear diffuser. All of this works to increase the peak force of support by 240kg to 170mph.
Below, the Race 380 obtains two positions of adjustment of the shock absorbers ÷hlins and adjustable front and rear anti-roll bars.
It also gets lightweight forged metal wheels, and although these are shod with the same tyre in the road car – Michelin Pilot Sport Cup 2 Ė the added aero grip and the improved chassis helps the 380 Race lap Lotus Hethel test track 1.5 sec quicker than a Exige Cup R racer.
