Moscow. 30 Dec. INTERFAX – the Ukrainian Orthodox Church has criticized the draft law of the Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine, which introduces the concept of “sexual orientation” and “gender identity.”
“Sin cannot be promoted as a normal variant of sexual life. Thus the state encourages its citizens to same-sex sexual relations. Who, then, will give birth to the Ukrainians? Who will be the future of our State and native land?” – said the head of the Department of the UOC for family Affairs, the Archbishop of Rovenky and Sverdlovsk Panteleimon, which quoted the press service of Information Department of the Ukrainian Church.
As reported, the bill, tabled in Parliament, introduces the concept of “sexual orientation” and “gender identity” to the Labour code and the law on advertising.
According to the Archbishop, the Church offers instead of these “legally uncertain concepts” to use in the legislation the concept of “gender” as an ideologically neutral.
He reminded the audience that on 17 November 2016 the Verkhovna Rada adopted the draft law “On prevention and counteraction to domestic violence”, with the deletion of the term “sexual orientation” and “gender”.
“Consequently, the majority of MPs understand that the Ukrainian people should preserve the traditional view of the family and to bring up children in the spirit of traditional family values,” – he stressed.
The representative of the UOC also noted that the Church advocates the discrimination of sexual minorities, but it is “categorically opposed to this way of life was interpreted as natural, normal and beneficial to society and the individual.”
