Mercedes-Benz E-class coupe will be presented at the Detroit motor show in January before going on sale in the spring of 2017.
Shapely two-door coupe E-class sedan is aimed squarely at the BMW 6 series and Audi A5, and hit the road in the final round of durability tests before the planned premiere at the Detroit motor show in early January 2017.
The new e-class coupé is the basis of the new E-class Convertible, which will go on sale in the UK next year. The car again has a hood and two-plus-two locations and here we can see the interior of the hard-top version.
In the UK showrooms in April next year with initially a limited range of petrol and diesel engines, the new e-class coupe is the first Mercedes-Benz model reflects a more conservative design lines introduced German automaker’s design boss, Gorden Wagener.
The fifth generation E-CLASS sedan was unveiled at the Detroit auto show in January. It takes many of the features of the big S-class, including dual-screen digital instrument and a multimedia display. The new E-class coupe shares many of its interior architecture and appointments from E-class sedan and wagon, including the optional 12.3 digital instrument display and multifunction steering wheel with touch pads within the last comand APS NTG 5 infotainment system.
The rotary controller for the comand system will also go, as Mercedes replaces it with a larger version of the existing optional touchpad that allows you to scroll through the various navigation, audio and car settings menu with the touch of a finger.
While this early E-class coupe test mule is camouflaged, we can see the car will get a sloping roof line that tapers towards the rear and the daytime running lights in the front. Two-door E-class has many of the same styling cues as the S-class coupe, and the recently released C-Class coupe. The extension of the so-called sensual purity of the theme of the recent Mercedes-Benz concept cars, it eliminates the heavy sculpture and taut surfacing the previous E-class E-class coupe for a very smooth look, largely unadorned flanks and a more complete form.
“We continue designing our production cars at the new stage. He still adheres to the basic principles manifested in later models, but much cleaner and timeless appeal,” says Wagener new line.
The new design can be seen on the e-class coupe in the photo of the prototype, which has only bonded covering over its production of the panels. Most prominent of all is the almost complete absence of objects or swage lines across the sides and around the rear wheels – a sign that marks a radical departure from the heavily decorate the view and a special way to the swage line on the old E-class coupe.
The new E-class coupé, codenamed S208, based on the latest Mercedes’ MRA (modular rear architecture) structure, with a unique wheelbase and wide tracks giving it a much larger footprint.
Further distinctive design elements featured on the new model “Mercedes-Benz” now traditional soft nose grille, a more conventional hood, which has refrained from broad wing clamshell style completing the line of its predecessor, frameless doors, heavy littered the effect in a greenhouse, the lack of b-pillars, flowing rear rack, defined shoulder line above the rear of cabins, small rear window, the negatively sloping boot line and trapezoidal tailpipes that are integrated in the lower part of the rear bumper.
As a new generation of sedan, coupe, E-class will sit on the platform of the Mercedes MRA, which already underpins the C-class and S-class. The coupe will also have a range of engines including the new generation of four-cylinder petrol powerplant along with the main 2.0-litre diesel. In the range of 3.0-litre six-cylinder diesel is also expected to be offered.
Mercedes will also offer an e-350e plug-in hybrid sedan variant, which mates a turbocharged 2.0-litre petrol engine with an electric motor, although it is not yet known whether this powertrain will be offered in coupe variant. Among the planned engines of the latest generation of Mercedes-Benz in-line 2.0-litre four-cylinder and the newly developed 3.0-liter inline six-cylinder Petrol and diesel engines.
It is also planned in the new coupe Mercedes-Benz new twin-turbocharged, the same 4.0-litre V8 – essentially unsettled tuned version of the similar engine used in the latest lineup of models from the AMG performance car division.
All engines will be mated exclusively in the latest nine-speed German automaker automatic transmission. Along with the standard rear-wheel Drive, some models will also show optional 4matic all-wheel drive.
Speculation about plans for a top-of-the-range Mercedes-AMG E 63 coupe models are yet to be confirmed, though sources say a new model C43 coupe is already under development and is scheduled to launch in 2017.
Like the saloon, the price of the E-class coupe is expected to increase compared to the current car. The current generation E-class coupe will cost from £38,635 in the UK.
