The Russian airline market survived the first year without “Transaero”

MOSCOW, 26 Oct — RIA Novosti/Prime. The Russian airline market for a year there is no once the largest private airline “Transaero”, the air operator certificate which was revoked from October 26, 2015. The carrier has been unable to service the debt, components, together with the leasing obligations of about 250 billion rubles.

The main attack took upon himself “Aeroflot” — it was he who carried out transportation of passengers who have already bought tickets for flights of “Transaero”, hired more than half of the remaining without a job employees of a competitor and took its fleet of his aircraft. As compensation for the costs incurred for the fulfilment of obligations on transportation of passengers “Transaero” (about 17 billion rubles), Aeroflot was given the part of international routes of the carrier.

“Departure “Transaero” has indeed led to the fact that in some areas competition has decreased, at the same time, we see that often the withdrawal of carriers from certain lines is associated with a real reduction in demand”, — told RIA Novosti the head of analytical service of Agency “AviaPort” Oleg Panteleev.

A failed rescue

Company Transaero was the first private airline in the history of the country, began operations in 1991. Its largest shareholders were spouses Alexander and Olga Pleshakova, also among the shareholders was the mother Pleshakov — head of the Interstate aviation Committee (IAC) Tatyana Anodina, who until the summer of 2015 was a member of the Board of Directors of the carrier.

Financial problems have haunted the airline in recent years its activities. At the end of 2014, compared to net loss of Transaero under RAS totaled 19,322 billion rubles, and for the first half of 2015 — 8,57 billion. At the end of December 2014 the Russian government has provided “Transaero” the state guarantees up to 9 billion rubles for a period of not less than 3 years for the financing of primary production and operating activities.

Then experts attributed the debt problems of the airline on one side with the surplus air fleet, which had to make monthly lease payments, with another — with falling demand for flights. The role played by the devaluation of the ruble.

The government of the Russian Federation in September of last year I decided to save the airline close to bankruptcy by consolidating and transferring 75% plus 1 share of “Aeroflot”. However, the timing of the consolidation package was broken. Then it became known that the owner of the S7 group, Vladislav Filev intends to buy not less than 51% of the company, but the deal fell through: shareholder Pleshakov was not able to consolidate the required package.

In December 2015, the arbitration court of St.-Petersburg and Leningrad region upheld the Bank statement for bankruptcy “Transaero” and introduced a procedure of observation.

Big claims to “Transaero” during the year there were in arbitration courts of different regions. Lawsuits filed Aeroflot, the foreign company related to “VTB Leasing” controlled by “Rosneft” of the structure, the state Corporation for air traffic management in Russia, a company associated with the airports “Domodedovo”, “Pulkovo”, “Koltsovo”.

The collapse of the second largest airline could not affect the counterparties. In June the Deputy Chairman of VTB Herbert Moos said that the Bank’s loss in 2015 due to termination of “Transaero” amounted to 24 billion rubles. The debt of the airline to Sberbank, as reported by the top managers of credit institutions, amounted to about 13 billion rubles. In particular, before leasing “a daughter” the largest Russian Bank — more than 7 billion rubles, financial debt — 6 billion rubles.

The redistribution of the market

Only “Transaero” had the tolerances for flight 156 international destinations. Group “Aeroflot” has received permits for 56 of them. Later, the carrier refused 13 directions, calling them excessive.

The Federal Antimonopoly service (FAS) of the Russian Federation has repeatedly expressed its disagreement with this decision. So, the head of Department Igor Artemyev in September this year said that the service stands for the distribution of routes received “Aeroflot” “Transaero” in favor of other companies of the Russian Federation.

This week the interdepartmental Commission of the Ministry of transport of the Russian Federation extended to “Aeroflot” and its affiliated airline “Russia” before the end of March 2017 tolerances on 37 routes.

However, the CEO of the largest Russian airlines Vitaly Savelyev at the beginning of the year, said that Aeroflot was not a monopolist after the departure “Transaero” – the group took at that time 42% of the Russian market of air transportation. And those 13 million passengers, Transaero transported in 2014, were distributed between the different airlines: UTair, S7, Ural airlines.

A serious problem in the care of “Transaero” became the shortage of tickets to the far East. “The fact that “Transaero” possessed a large fleet of wide-body passenger aircraft and large provodniki capacities, especially in the far East. And therefore, to replace fully and immediately all those air traffic, who performed “Transaero” was very difficult”, — said the Chairman of the public Council under the Federal air transport Agency Pyotr Deinekin.

However, according to Panteleeva, today the situation with the traffic on the far Eastern direction is stabilized. “Now in the far East was activated for the winter season other carriers in the first place — the airline “Russia” which sets in that direction wide-body aircraft of large capacity, also on several fronts fly “VIM-Avia”, which will enable the needs of the market in carrying containers to the far East”, — the expert believes.

In January-August 2016, according to Rosaviation, the largest carrier in the country remained “Aeroflot”. It carried more than 19 million people, higher than last year by 10%. Second place now is a member of the group S7 “Siberia” — it carried 6.5 million, showing an increase of almost 20%. Third place went to the “daughter” of “Aeroflot”, “Russia”, which showed an increase of 15%, transported more than 5 million people over this period.

People and planes

By September 2015 in the Park of the company “Transaero” had over a hundred planes. Their technical condition after the receipt by the lessor have been criticized. The head of Sberbank German Gref said that the airline was exploiting the court “Sberbank Leasing” and that “they were absolutely in the state,” and on the recovery ships had spent $ 19 million.

The Minister of transport of Russia Maxim Sokolov said that part of the Transaero aircraft departed the leasing companies and they were attached to other airlines in the world, the part is transferred, including “Russia”, and they are working on directions.

The fate of the remaining vessels, “Transaero”, he said, will be resolved before the end of 2016. In many aircraft during this period have already reached their service life and must now become the so-called severe form of the Ghost of them in airworthy condition, said the Minister.

According to Fes, at the beginning of November 2015 number of staff of “Transaero” was of 10.58 thousands of people. “Aeroflot” has declared that the group companies are ready to employ more than 6 thousand employees of the airline. By the end of April, the group completed the admission of workers who wanted to go to Aeroflot. In total, the airline “Russia” and “Aeroflot” has transferred about 4.5 thousand employees of “Transaero” said Savelyev.

Also, ex-staff of “Transaero” was employed in the airline “Globus”, “Aviastar-Tu”, “North wind”, “Ural airlines”, “Nordavia”. Administrative staff and employees of the engineering departments found a job in airlines I Fly, RedWings, “Vnukovo cargo”. Even the Belarusian “Belavia” have employed several staff members of “Transaero”.

She “Transaero” in September confirmed the full repayment of wage arrears to its employees. As reported by the company, as of September 1 had no arrears of wages to employees.
