Died, the former Emir of Qatar Sheikh Khalifa bin Hamad al-Thani

On 85-m to year of life has died the former Emir of Qatar Sheikh Khalifa bin Hamad al Thani, reports Al Arabiya.

The current Emir of Qatar, Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad al-Thani, is the grandson of the deceased, declared three days of mourning across the country.

Sheikh Khalifa bin Hamad al-Thani, born in 1932, was the sixth Emir of Qatar and the second from the dynasty of al-Thani. He ruled Qatar for more than 20 years from 1972 to 1995.

In 1995, when Khalifa bin Hamad al Thani was on a business trip in Switzerland, his son Hamad bin Khalifa al-Thani, with the support of the other members of the family became the Supreme head of Qatar. Since 1995, Khalifa bin Hamad al-Thani lived in France and returned home only in 2004.
