The number of Amur tigers in 10 years increased 15%

SOCHI, October 14 — RIA Novosti, Genevieve ed. The population of the Amur tiger throughout its range in comparison with 2005 has increased by 10-15% to 523-540 animals, according to the Ministry of natural resources.

It is noted that the successful actions of Russia and China on account of a rare cat species was discussed at the 11th meeting of the Subcommission on cooperation in the field of environmental protection of the Russian-Chinese Commission for preparing regular meetings of heads of government in Sochi. The Chinese side informed that in order to enhance conservation of the Amur tiger in the year 2015 in China created a new nature reserve “Tartarin” in Jilin province with a total area of 50,055 thousand hectares, as well as enhanced monitoring and research of the Amur tiger and far Eastern leopard, the program developed for their protection, increased financial support.

“According to Russian experts, the population of the Amur tiger throughout its range in comparison with 2005 has increased by 10-15% to 523-540 animals, including 98-100 cubs”, — stated in the message.

At the same time Russia and China will step up cooperation on cross-border specially protected natural territories of Russia: “bolshekhekhtsirsky”, “Bastak”, national Park “Land of leopard” — China: “Bacalao”, “Sanjiang”, “Honghe”, “Hunchun”, “Wangqing”, and reserve “Lake Khanka”.
