China is concerned about new duties of the European Commission for steel products

BEIJING, October 9 — RIA Novosti, Ivan Bulatov. The Ministry of Commerce of China expressed concern about the new anti-dumping duties by the European Commission in respect of steel products from China.

This week the European Commission imposed a six-month anti-dumping duties on steel products from China, in particular, hot rolled sheet and steel plate. According to the EC, these measures will restore the profitability of the European steel industry.

“China pays close attention and expressed concern about the trend towards trade protectionism in the steel sector of the European Union”, — stated in the message of Commerce of the PRC.

The Department also noted that the EU recently held “unfair” investigations against steel products from China, and also used measures of protectionism, which “causes serious damage to China’s enterprises”.

“China urges EU to honor its commitments and to avoid feeding false signals to the world”, — the Ministry said, adding that Beijing intends to strengthen the contacts with the EU to address adequately questions of steel products.

In early August, the EU imposed five years anti-dumping duties on cold-rolled steel from Russia and China.

In July, the EC began an anti-dumping analysis of the import into the EU of certain steel products from Russia and four other countries. The European Commission received a complaint from the European steel Association (Eurofer), alleging that imports into the EU of certain types of hot-rolled products from Brazil, Iran, Russia, Serbia and Ukraine causing material damage to the EU industry.
