The General Director of the State Hermitage Mikhail Piotrovsky suggested that the Patriarch of Moscow and all Russia Kirill, who on Thursday met with leaders of the largest museums in the country, to create a joint Commission of the Union of museums of Russia and the Patriarchal Council for culture.
“We would like to offer to create a joint Commission of the Union of museums of Russia and the Council for culture of Patriarchy in order to hold seminars and round tables on various current topics,” said Piotrovsky.
He added that the Museum community and the Russian Orthodox Church “a vast field for joint activities. In particular, according to him, we are talking about the protection of monuments of architecture in Russia and abroad, including in Syria.
Earlier it was reported that Russian experts in early July visited the historical-archaeological site of Palmyra in Syria and prepared a report assessing the status and necessary costs of restoration at the hands of terrorists monuments. The group included representatives of the Ministry of culture of the Russian Federation, the State Museum of the peoples of the East, the State Hermitage, Russian art scientific and restoration centre named after academician I. E. Grabar and the Institute of archaeology RAS.
