Rosneft and South Korea’s Hyundai Heavy create a joint venture for the production of large tankers. About this informed the head of “Rosneft” Igor Sechin, reports TASS.
“A joint venture with Hyundai Heavy for the design and manufacture of large-capacity Aframax tankers to natural gas”, — he said. The Agency notes that he said this after the signing of the agreement.
Sechin explained that in 2020 when passing through certain canals and Straits will operate special requirements for tankers. “If we did this (signed the agreement.) now, then it would be difficult to ensure transport of hydrocarbons, ” he explained.
According to the head of the Corporation, a majority of the joint venture will be created from the Russian side, Hyundai Heavy will provide the design part, the infrastructure, expertise and personnel. It is expected that the construction of tankers the new facility should commence prior to 2020.
