A joint mission of the United States and Ukraine will perform an observation flight over Russia. About it journalists were reported by the acting head of the Russian national Centre for reducing nuclear threat, Sergei Zabello, reports “RIA Novosti”.
The flight will take place from 22 to 27 August in the framework of the Treaty on open skies. U.S. and Ukrainian specialists will fly from the airport of Ulan-Ude on the American aircraft observations OS-135Б, which is not intended to use any weapons. As noted Zabello, the mission will proceed on the agreed route, to control the observance of flight parameters and application of the observation instruments are onboard the Russian specialists.
In turn, Russian military inspectors will perform observation flights over the territory of the United States and Canada on Tu-154M LK-1, said Zabello. The flight also will take place from 22 to 27 August.
The open skies Treaty was adopted 24 March 1992 in Helsinki, the member countries of the Organization for security and cooperation in Europe (OSCE). Its purpose is strengthening of mutual understanding and trust between the two countries. Russia ratified the agreement in 2001. Currently, the agreement is 34 States.
