Stage of relay race of Olympic fire of Games in 2016
The international Olympic Committee (IOC) before the decision on participation of the Russian team in the Olympics had serious pressure from the Western media, and us senators. This was stated on Monday, the President of the Russian Olympic Committee (ROC) Alexander Zhukov, reports “Interfax”.
“I think the IOC has a very strong influence”, — said Zhukov.
In his opinion, “this can be judged by the articles that appeared in the Western press, American and British press, this can be judged by the statements of us senators who have asked the [world anti-doping Agency] WADA why they spent $25 million, but very slow to deal with the Russian athletes.”
“Obviously that was strong political pressure on the international Olympic Committee”, — said the President of the ROC.
Yesterday, 24 July, the IOC Executive Board announced the decision not to disqualify the whole team Russia from the summer Olympics in Rio de Janeiro, leaving the right to determine which athletes will be able to play the Games and who’s not, the international sport federations.
The decision of the IOC criticized WADA, the U.S. anti-doping Agency (USADA) and the sports Minister and Australian health Sussan Ley.
In the Kremlin the decision on the admission team for the Olympics called “positive”, however, as stated by the press Secretary of the President of Russia Dmitry Peskov, Vladimir Putin will not attend the opening ceremony of the Games. The Minister of sports Vitaly Mutko stated that the IOC decision is optimal and non-political.
