Guitar Fender Stratocaster British musician Eric Clapton was sold at auction for $45 million, the Associated Press reports.
The proceeds will be used to pay medical bills Texas musician johnny Nicholas, whose wife recently passed away from leukemia.
The representative of the auction house Heritage Eric Bradley reported that the guitar buyer wished to remain anonymous. However, he noted that the rate was more than expected.
Clapton played this guitar last year at a concert in London in honour of his 70th birthday.
Eric Clapton is a British rock musician and composer, also known for his solo in the Beatles song “While My Guitar Gently Weeps”. In 1993, Clapton was awarded the prize “Grammy” in the category “album of the year”, “song of the year” and “record of the year”.
In 2010, the musician announced the sale of its 70 guitars. The proceeds were sent to the rehabilitation center for drug addicts and alcoholics in Antigua, founded by Clapton himself.
