National media group decided to increase the share in the “Sport-Express” up to 70%

National media group filed an application in Federal Antimonopoly service on purchase of 45% stake in the newspaper “Sport-Express”. About this “Kommersant” was told in the press service of the Ministry and confirmed the representative of the holding.

The term of consideration of application will be 30 days. The representative of NMG said that the sellers of the shares may be individuals who own the newspaper now.

In March, national media group has already acquired 25% of the book at its principal owner Edward Raikin. The call to “Kommersant” Raikin did not answer, but previously, he claimed that does not exclude increasing the share of NMG in “Sport-Express”.

The source of “Kommersant” in the market notes that prior to the transactions with NMG Raikin about a year looking for a buyer of the publication. He explained that the amount of the transaction, he laid the damages that the newspaper suffered from 2012 when it bought the newspaper from the former owner Ivan Rubin. “Monthly minus “Sport-Express” walking in the area of 20-30 million rubles,” — said Raikin. The interlocutor of “Kommersant” claims that as buyers dealt with such media as News Media, Gazprom-media” and some others.

Now NMG owns 72.4% of “the Fifth channel”, 25% “the First channel”, 68% of REN TV. The group also included the newspaper “Izvestia” (73.2 per cent) and the radio station “Life Sound” (“Russian news service”) (100%). In addition, NMG has been running the St. Petersburg newspaper “Metro-Petersburg”.

The newspaper “Sport-Express” was founded in 1991. Edition size is 220 thousand people, it goes in more than 309 cities. In March, the Board of Directors of “Sport-Express” was headed by the Olympic champion on rhythmic gymnastics Alina Kabaeva. According to TNS Russia, which leads “Kommersant”, the average audience of one number “Sport Express in Russia amounted to 313,3 thousand for December 2015-April 2016.

In April 2015 the staff of “Sport-Express” asked to change the owner of the publication. The authors of the open letter said that since January, in the wording of commenced delays in payment of salaries. In addition, the owner, according to them, announced the possible reduction of staff journalists. They were also dissatisfied with the dismissal of editor-in-chief of the edition Dmitry Kuznetsov and his deputies.
