Continued aggression by Russia will cause a response of NATO and the strengthening of the Alliance presence in Eastern Europe. This was stated by Deputy national security adviser Ben Rhodes, Reuters reports.
“What we are demonstrating that if Russia continues this model of aggression is the answer and will expand its presence in Eastern Europe,” said Rhodes. He also stated about the intentions to do whatever is necessary to protect the Alliance and its Eastern members.
On 8 July, NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg said that the missile defense system in Europe is derived on the initial level of combat readiness in order for American ships located in Spain, radar in Turkey and interceptors in Romania were able to work together.
The NATO Secretary General noted that the system is only defensive in nature and do not bear any threat for the Russian strategy of nuclear deterrence.
