The President of Russia Vladimir Putin signed the law “On amendments to the criminal code of the Russian Federation and the Criminal procedural code of the Russian Federation” according to which tougher criminal liability for bribery in the sport. This is stated on the official Internet portal of legal information.
According to the law, bribery to exert illegal influence on the result of the competition will be punished by a fine in the amount from 300 thousand to 500 thousand rubles or up to four years with deprivation of the right to occupy a variety of positions.
Athletes receive bribes will be punished by a fine in the amount from 300 thousand to 500 thousand rubles or imprisonment for up to four years with a fine in the amount of 50 thousand rubles.
In February Russia began to consider a question on excitation of criminal case because of a doping scandal and related corruption involving officials of the international Association (IAAF) and the Russian athletics Federation (vfla).
On 9 November the World anti-doping Agency (WADA) has published part of the report, which accused the sports Ministry of Russia and the FSB meddling in the work of the accredited Agency of the Moscow anti-doping laboratory. The report argues that at the end of 2014, the head of the laboratory, Grigory Rodchenkov was instructed to kill almost 1.5 thousand doping samples before testing.
