Before Reuters, citing diplomatic sources said that the permanent representatives of EU countries in Brussels agreed to extend sanctions against Russia until the end of January 2017. Formally, a document must be signed on Friday at the meeting of Ministers for European Affairs.
During the conversation Poroshenko and Merkel also discussed the evolution of the Minsk process on the results of the visit of the President of Ukraine to France and the results of the quadripartite meeting of the foreign policy advisers of the leaders of the “Normandy format” held in Minsk on 15-16 June.
In addition, the two leaders also discussed preparations for the NATO summit, which will take place on 8-9 July in Warsaw, which invited the President of Ukraine.
