In the province of Damascus the formation claiming to be the opposition organization “Jaish al-Islam fired mortar shells positions of the Syrian armed forces, thus violating the cease-fire, says the Bulletin of the Center for conciliation of the warring parties in Syria, published on the website of the Ministry of defense of Russia.
The Ministry clarified that the bombardment of the government forces in the towns Gaur El-Basha, Hawsh al-Fara, and Harasta-El-Basel.
The defense Ministry has repeatedly reported on the violation of “Jaish al-Islam” of the cease-fire in Syria, the shelling of Syrian troops and settlements.
April 26, 2016, Russia submitted to the UN an application for the incorporation of rebel groups “Jaish al-Islam and Ahrar al-sham as a terrorist, which would mean their withdrawal from the ceasefire in Syria. As explained by the Russia’s permanent representative to the UN Vitaly Churkin, the reason for this decision were the data that these groups fighting in Syria, closely associated with terrorist organizations, primarily with the “Islamic state” and “al-Qaeda” (both activities prohibited in Russia). However, this initiative was blocked by the UK, USA, France and Ukraine.
The cease-fire acts in Syria from February 27, 2016 and does not apply to organizations and groups recognized by the UN security Council as terrorist. According to the defense Ministry, with the terms of the cessation of hostilities agreed 61 armed groups in Syria.
