Tanker Al Nuaman
On the tanker Al Nuaman Friday to the Swinoujscie terminal was delivered to 210 thousand cubic meters of LNG that will be unloaded within 24 hours and injected in the gas pipeline network, reports Bloomberg, citing a statement by the Polish state-owned pipeline operator Gaz-System SA.
Saturday LNG terminal, located on the coast of the Baltic sea, is officially named after the former Polish President Lech Kaczynski, who died in a plane crash near Smolensk.
The following LNG supply is expected from Norway in the same month, Bloomberg reported.
“The terminal is one of the most important elements of building energy independence of Poland and the diversification of gas supply,” — said the official representative of Gaz-System Tomasz Petrushansky.
Two-thirds of gas needs to Poland is provided by supplies from Russia. In Warsaw plan to double the initial capacity of the terminal up to 5 billion cubic meters per year, which will cover a third of the annual needs, and to build a pipeline to Norway, to completely end dependence on Russian supplies, according to Bloomberg.
In late may, Poland said that does not intend to extend a long-term contract with Gazprom, which expires in 2022, at present. After that, Warsaw will consider the import of gas from Russia only as additional supplies provided best prices.
Russian President Vladimir Putin said in response that if Poland refuses to buy Russian gas, Moscow will find other buyers. “It could be German, Austrian, Italian company. Someone will buy it, if not, we will look for other options,” — said the head of state.
The volume of Russian gas supplies to Poland amounts to 10 billion cubic meters per year.
