Pakistan refused to buy American F-16 fighters

Pakistan refused to buy eight F-16 fighters from the United States. This was stated by the foreign Minister of the country Aizaz Chaudhry, reports NDTV.

According to the Minister, Pakistan has decided to purchase F-16 fighter jets from Jordan. Chaudhry said that “the United States seems to be satisfied with the decision of Pakistan”.

He also noted that one of the reasons for the “tense relations with the United States has had close ties of Pakistan with China. “Pakistan cannot cooperate with the US on some issues. One such issue is its sovereignty,” said Chaudhry.

US approved the sale to Pakistan of eight F-16 fighters in February of this year. Initially it was assumed that Islamabad will pay for them about $270 million, and will receive American subsidies.

However, in early may, the U.S. government said that the sale could not be made on preferential terms, and planes will cost Pakistan $700 million to Members of Congress from both parties demanded that Islamabad, which is suspected of supporting militants, “behavioral changes,” wrote the Financial Times.
