The US does not put Mongolia facing a choice between Russia, China or any other countries, as all countries should communicate with their neighbours and with each other. This statement was made by U.S. Secretary of state John Kerry, who is on a visit to Ulan Bator. The statement published on the website of the US state Department.
“We’re not asking you to choose between Russia and China or anyone else. It’s not something we encourage,” said Kerry.
He stressed that States “with great respect” to the course, chosen by Mongolia. “But what we’d like is a movement [of Mongolia] to full democracy”, — said the head of the US state Department.
He is urged to fight corruption in the country, as well as to develop policies that will attract to Mongolia private capital.
In his speech, the Secretary also announced a program worth $2.5 million with the support of the U.S. Agency for international development (USAID), which will focus on “promotion of democratic process in Mongolia. The program also envisages provision of textbooks to schools, said Kerry.
