Bioterrorism is the most acute present challenge, reports “RIA Novosti” with reference to the head of Rospotrebnadzor Anna Popova.
“Most, of course, acute the challenge today is bioterrorism, we must be ready. We always prepare for it,” — said Popov during the XVI all-Russian Congress of nutritionists and dietitians.
The Minister stressed that has long been known method of delivery into the body affecting agents through the use of food products.
According to Popova, Russia has greatly reduced the number of infectious outbreaks, in which there is the food factor. She said that for five years in Russia has occurred only 14 “milk outbreaks”, when during the same period in the United States 85. “The extent of our regulation and the degree of supervision gives the best result for the health of the population”, — said Popov.
A year ago the Secretary of security Council of Russia Nikolai Patrushev admitted that the terrorists can be involved in the Ebola outbreak in Africa. According to him, the extremists are trying to develop weapons of mass destruction, including biological weapons. “The international community should be attentive to these issues” — called Patrushev.
The outbreak of Ebola occurred in Africa in 2014. From the epidemic in Sierra Leone, Guinea and Liberia has killed more than 10 thousand people.
