President Barack Obama laid flowers at the Memorial peace Park in Hiroshima, which was laid out near the site of the explosion of the atomic bombs dropped by American aircraft on August 6, 1945, according to CNN.
“71 years ago, on a bright cloudless morning death came from the sky, and the world changed”, — said in his speech, Barack Obama. “A bright flash and a wall of fire destroyed the city and has shown that mankind has the means to self-destruct,” added the American President.
“We have to think about the terrible power that we unleashed in the very recent past. We come here to mourn the dead”, — quotes the American President CNN.

The broadcaster notes that Obama’s words have expressed their grief, however, he never apologized for the atomic bombing of Japanese cities.
It is expected that during his visit to Hiroshima, he will meet with survivors of the atomic bomb, which in 1945 were still young children.
Obama became the first President who has decided to visit Hiroshima and Nagasaki — two cities that were destroyed during the atomic bombing. In Hiroshima alone, the result of the explosion and radiation sickness killed more than 140 thousand people.
