The media learned about the Merkel’s proposal of Japan to join NATO

German Chancellor Angela Merkel and Prime Minister of Japan Shinzo Abe

According to the publication “The Japan Times”, during a visit to Tokyo in March last year, Merkel asked Prime Minister of Japan Shinzo Abe, as it relates to the idea of joining NATO. “I could convince British Prime Minister David Cameron and French President Francois Hollande,” said she.

The publication indicates that Abe politely said that it would consider the issue “may be in the future”, stressing that Japan’s entry into the NATO is fraught with the termination of negotiations with Russia about the conclusion of a peace Treaty.

Japan is not included in military units, but is viewed as a major NATO ally along with Australia, Thailand, South Korea, Pakistan, Argentina and several States in the Middle East.
