Nick Clegg says the “war on drugs is not working”, but Peter Hitchens says “there has been no war”. The columnist said cannabis has been “effectively a decriminalised drug in the country for many years”, and the number of prosecutions has been “dropping like a stone”. But the former deputy prime minister said: “Drugs are bad for you, they cause harm. I am a dad, I don’t want my kids hooked on drugs”, but he told Mr Hitchens that he could not “just wish it away and somehow think you can prohibit drugs out of existence”.
The pair spoke to Daily Politics presenter Jo Coburn about what the UK, and some other governments, have and have not been doing about the prohibition of drugs.
