The head of the German foreign intelligence service BND Gerhard Schindler will be dismissed, reports on Tuesday, 26 April, Reuters , citing sources in the German government.
The Agency notes that 63-year-old Schindler came under pressure a year ago, when it was revealed that the BND had carried out surveillance of the European partners, at the request of the national security Agency USA (NSA).
According to German media reports, Schindler has summoned the head of the Federal Chancellery Peter Altmaier. On Wednesday, Altmaier will be a briefing, which is expected to announce the upcoming change of the head of the BND.
Initially about the impending resignation of Schindler told the newspaper Sueddeutsche Zeitung and broadcaster NDR and WDR. According to them, at the head of the foreign intelligence it will replace Bruno KAHL, an official of the Ministry of Finance, which is considered a close ally of Finance Minister Wolfgang Schaeuble.
