The Palestinian Islamist group Hamas has claimed responsibility for the bus explosion in Jerusalem, which occurred last Monday. This publication reports Haaretz citing a statement by the organization.
However, as notes the edition, the corresponding statement was made by the representatives of Hamas on the West Bank of the Jordan river, and not the representatives of the factions in Gaza or abroad.
Immediately after the explosion Hamas has released an official statement with approval of attack, but responsibility for it themselves is not taken, the newspaper writes.
The explosion was committed by the 19-year-old member of Hamas from the Palestinian refugee camp Aida, which is located two kilometers from the town of Bethlehem in the West Bank of the Jordan river, said the organization. According to representatives of the Ministry of health in Gaza, after the explosion, he was hospitalized, but on Wednesday, 20 April, died in hospital of his wounds.
The official representative of the mayor of Jerusalem stated that the cause of the explosion on the bus was a small bomb. Earlier Reuters, citing Israeli media reported that one of the seriously injured are under investigation, suspected of committing the explosion.
A blast on the bus occurred Monday, April 18, in the South-East of Jerusalem. According to Haaretz, the explosion injured 20 people. Of those killed in the attack were not previously reported.
