McFaul called the “compliment” Zakharova criticism in his address

Former U.S. Ambassador to Russia Michael McFaul replied to the speaker of the foreign Ministry Maria Zakharova, who called it “anti-example” of conduct of the Ambassador.

In his Twitter McFaul wrote that “will take that as a compliment”. He added: “Zakharova few new materials that she had requested an old song? Sorry.”

The statement of the speaker of the foreign Ministry concerning the meeting place, sounded day on April 19 at a briefing. “The previous U.S. Ambassador Michael McFaul was the anti-example of how to behave Ambassador in the country where they sent the state”, — said Zakharov. She explained that in the early days of his stay in Russia, “instead of coming to meet with colleagues from the Foreign Ministry, meet with the opposition is disrespectful to the state in which you arrived”.

The meeting referred to by Zakharov, occurred in mid-January 2012. a few days after the beginning of work of McFaul in Russia. “Radio Liberty” reported that the meeting was well attended including Boris Nemtsov, Yevgeniya Chirikova, state Duma deputies Ilya Ponomaryov and Oksana Dmitriyeva.

Speaking about the meeting, McFaul also said: “by the Way, if she really said that’s not true. It was a meeting between Deputy Secretary of state burns [bill burns] and the opposition. Ambassadors [in this case] was escorted”.
