Soldier in the Karabakh conflict zone
Armenia and Azerbaijan on Saturday, 9 April, accused each other of violation of ceasefire regime in the Karabakh conflict zone. Yerevan said on 16 attacks in Baku speak about 120 cases of ceasefire violation.
As reported in the press service of the Armenian defense Ministry, Azerbaijani forces fired 16 times from large-caliber weapons the North-Eastern section of the border. The Agency noted that the frequency of violations has decreased and they are “irregular”. The defense Ministry stressed that the Armenian military refer to retaliatory action only when needed.
In turn, the defense Ministry of Azerbaijan said that in days 120 Armenian military violated the ceasefire regime with the use of 60-millimeter mortars and heavy machine guns, reports Trend. The defense Ministry said that the attacks are located in the nameless heights and in the settlements of the positions of Azerbaijani military. In response they inflicted 121 fire attack.
The aggravation in the conflict zone in Nagorno-Karabakh occurred on the night of 2 April. The parties have accused each other of provocations, and reported numerous enemy losses. Tuesday, April 5, Baku and Yerevan announced the ceasefire. Later it became clear that such an agreement was reached during a meeting of chiefs of General Staffs of both countries in Moscow. However, after the commencement of the truce the parties repeatedly accused each other of attacks.
This week Armenia was visited by Russian Prime Minister Dmitry Medvedev. He turned to presidet of the country Serzh Sargsyan with a proposal to discuss the idea of Russia in the Karabakh conflict settlement. According to him, it is about “something that could have been done in the very near future”.
