President of Ukraine Petro Poroshenko said that the U.S. government soon will allocate $335 million in funding to the security sector and defense of the country. He said this in an interview to Ukrainian TV channels, reports “Interfax-Ukraine”.
“The first position is $335 million, without any conditions, finally Ukraine will receive financing of sectors of defence and security. We very long waited for these funds, we participated in the distribution of these funds, identifying those priorities that we need these funds,” said Poroshenko in an interview following his visit to the USA.
He added that the allocated funds will be spent on purchase of latest weapons and equipment, as well as to conduct exercises and training for the military.
Poroshenko said that during his visit to the United States reached agreements, including on joint production of military-industrial facilities on the territory of Ukraine jointly with the US military industrial complex and the state Corporation “Ukroboronprom”.
Poroshenko and U.S. President Barack Obama met on Thursday, March 31, during the nuclear security summit in Washington. The heads of state discussed the situation in Donbas and in the Crimea and coordinated the efforts for the fulfilment by Russia of the Minsk agreements.
In addition, the President of Ukraine has held a meeting with Vice President Joe Biden and Secretary of state John Kerry. Following the meeting it was announced that Ukraine may be allocated to the tranche of credit guarantees in the amount of $1 billion, subject to the formation of a new government focused on reforms and partnership with the IMF.
