The Deputy Prosecutor General of Ukraine Yuriy Stolyarchuk stated that the result will announce the names of customers and organizers of murder of the journalist Georgy Gongadze.
“In the near future, I have reason to believe that these names will be heard,” said Stolyarchuk in the program “TSN. Tyzhden” in the Ukrainian TV channel “1+1” (quoted by “Interfax-Ukraine”).
Journalist Gongadze, who led the Internet edition “Ukrainian truth” and criticized the administration of President Leonid Kuchma, disappeared on 16 September 2000. In November of the same year, police found the decapitated body which, according to conclusions of experts, could belong to the journalist.
After nine years in the Kiev region were found the remains of the skull, which was alleged to belong to Gongadze. On 22 February, his funeral was held in Kyiv. To this day the body was not buried, as the journalist’s mother refused to acknowledge that the remains belong to her son. However, in November last year, she died.
In 2008 in the murder were found guilty, three members of the Department of external surveillance and criminal intelligence Ministry of internal Affairs of Ukraine. In 2013, in this case, the court sentenced to life imprisonment the former General of the Ministry of internal Affairs of Ukraine Alexey pukacha. According to him, customers of murder of Gongadze was the ex-President of Ukraine Leonid Kuchma, the former Minister of internal Affairs Yury Kravchenko and the Ukrainian Parliament Vladimir Litvin.
