Michael de Luca will serve as producer of the film based on the fantastic novel by Russian writer Dmitry Glukhovsky “Metro 2033”, writes Variety. With him on the project will be working with producers Steven L’hérault (“sin City 2: a Woman is worth killing”) and Eugene Efuni who is trying to film the book Glukhovsky 2012.
In January 2016 Glukhovsky told “Tape.Roo” what to say about the film adaptation of his books to Hollywood early. According to him, Michael de Luca showed interest in the novel, but did not purchase it, despite media reports.
However, in talking with Variety Glukhovsky confirmed that de Luca will make the film for “Metro 2033”. “My novel and I’ve been waiting for this past 10 years, said the Variety fantastic. — I used to be cautious think about the fact that Hollywood producers took up the adaptation of my “baby”, but now I feel that he was in safe hands. De Luca and L’hérault wonderful plans for this project, and I am honored to work with them.”
Novel Metro 2033 Glukhovsky, was published in publishing house “Eksmo” in 2005. The novel describes the consequences of a nuclear war that occurred in 2013. The action takes place in the Moscow metro, where survivors are hiding.
The novel became a bestseller in Russia and was published in several languages, including English, German, French and Chinese. According to Ozon.ru, Metro 2033 and a half years is in the top ten bestsellers. Total circulation is more than 300 thousand copies. The book became a laureate of the festival “Eurocon 2007”. The novel also formed the basis of the eponymous computer game, developed by 4A Games.
First information about the film adaptation of the book in Hollywood appeared in 2012 — then the novel has attracted the attention of MGM, however, the negotiations were not successful.
Michael de Luca produced such films as “the Social network” (charges at the box office worldwide, according to Box Office Mojo, is $224,9 million), “Twenty-one” ($was 157.9 million), “Dracula” ($217.1 million), “moneyball,” ($110,2 million) and “Fifty shades of grey” ($571 million). He was nominated for three “Oscar”, in particular “the Social network” and “the Man who changed everything.” In 2016 he received a “Razzie” (prize for the worst achievements in film) for “Fifty shades of grey”.
